SB-889 Advocacy
Purpose
This section details the advocacy work I did for Senate Bill (SB) 889 as part of a Spring semester project for Social Issues and Policy.
SB 889 seeks to raise the age in which one can be tried as an adult in the California criminal justice system. Under this bill, 18- and 19-year-old offenders would be referred to the juvenile justice system.
Why
Providing emerging adults with the rehabilitative resources available in the juvenile justice system will achieve improved public safety outcomes and is in the interest of social justice.
